A man, believed to be 20-years-old, was left critically injured this afternoon after he crashed into a truck at the intersection of Albertina Sisulu and General Pienaar in Witpoortjie, west of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 14h00 to find a truck on the side of the road. A motorbike had been smashed beneath the truck while the biker was found lying in the middle of the road.
Local authorities closed off the road while paramedics assessed the patient.
Upon assessment, paramedics found that the man was in a critical condition, having sustained a serious injury to his leg as well as his abdomen.
Paramedics treated the man and provided him with numerous advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby private hospital for urgent treatment.
The driver of the truck fortunately, escaped injury.
Local authorities will be investigating the cause of the collision.
