A pedestrian, believed to be in his sixties, was killed on the N3 near the Hayfields split in Pietermaritzburg.
Shortly after 7pm paramedics were approached by bystanders at a local filling station and informed that a pedestrian was knocked down on the highway. ER24 paramedics made their way to the scene and found the man in the road with no signs of life. Sadly, there was nothing that they could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.
The occupants of the vehicle were assessed by paramedics. They did not sustain any injuries.
The incident was later handed over to local authorities for further investigation.
