Near drowning at Kempton Park

At 13h19 on Saturday afternoon the Netcare 2 helicopter was activated for a near drowning incident in the Kempton Park area. Reports from the scene indicate that the four year old child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the child to be in cardiac arrest. The Advanced life support paramedic and his team immediately started with advanced life support resuscitation. After the child was placed on a ventilator they continued for a few minutes with CPR before they managed to get the heart to beat again.

The patient was immobilised and then loaded on board the Netcare 2 medical helicopter before they airlifted the patient to a specialised hospital under the constant care of the Emergency Care Practitioner.
