One person was killed and three others sustained critical injuries in a collision on the N3 north between Ashburton and Market streets, Pietermaritzburg.
Shortly after 3pm, paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found that four people were ejected from one of the vehicles. One of the occupants was found with fatal injuries and declared dead on the scene. Three others sustained critical injuries. They were placed on life support before they were rushed to a nearby hospital.
A man with moderate injuries was found in the second vehicle. He was assessed and treated on scene. It is understood that the second occupant from the same vehicle, a woman, was transported to hospital before paramedics arrived on the scene.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. Police attended the scene and will investigate.
