Newly introduced C-HR reaps in impressive launch sales

With 418 units retailed in its first month on showroom floors, the new-kid-on-the-block C-HR is already among the top-sellers within the Toyota stable. This has contributed to Toyota once again breaking the 10,000 unit barrier with an overall total monthly sales figure of 11,055 units for March 2017.

“The C-HR has almost trebled its sales target for the first month, and is making waves in the small SUV segment thanks to its punchy 1.2-litre turbo engine and progressive styling,” commented Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

March was also a favourable month for the Toyota Fortuner, which once again took 1st place in the large SUV segment by raking in 1,312 unit sales. Furthermore, the RAV4 is experiencing steady month-on-month growth with 640 units finding new homes in March.

“The exceptional uptake of the new C-HR combined with prevailing Fortuner success and a renewed focus on RAV4 reinforces Toyota’s position as South Africa’s favourite SUV marque,” added Hamman.

Garnering 3,447 unit sales, the Toyota Hilux also retained the title of South Africa’s best-selling vehicle for the month of March, 213 units ahead of its closest competitor. “The fact that 90% of all Hilux’s purchased go to private buyers through dealer channels is a testament to its position as South Africa’s favourite ‘bakkie’, and vehicle,” said Calvyn.

March was an equally promising month for a variety of other Toyota models, most noticeably the Toyota Quantum at 1,239 units and the Land Cruiser 79 at 243 units.

Lexus contributed a noteworthy 25 Lexus LX and 35 Lexus NX premium vehicle sales, and on the commercial vehicle front, Hino had a strong showing, finishing the month on 376 units overall. Within the MCV segment, Hino recorded a leading 197 units sold, while the Hino 500 series attained a 22.6% market share in the HCV segment.

Toyota’s success across the small-, medium- and large SUV segments, and remarkable LCV sales has resulted in a leading 22.8% market share for March 2017 and overall market leader position for 2017 first quarter.
