KwaZulu-Natal: Suspect in court for carjacking

Yesterday, 13 June 2017 at bout 07:10, The Provincial Tactical Response Team arrested a 22-year-old suspect for carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

It is alleged that a 61-year-old victim was outside his driveway in Louis Walters Road in New Germany when he was accosted by three suspects who were armed with firearms. The victim was allegedly pulled out of his vehicle and the suspects fled the scene with the car.

Police were alerted and the vehicle was circulated. It is alleged that the suspect went to Kwa Dabeka where they met the police who were also looking for the suspects. It is alleged that two suspects abandoned the vehicle and the driver was apprehended. Police recovered a pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition from the suspect. The suspect was out on bail for another carjacking where the victim was hijacked in October last year. He appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 14 June 2017.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the members for their swift arrest of the perpetrator and the recovery of the hijacked vehicle. “ We will ensure that the remaining suspects are brought to book and face the full might of the law,” he said.
