Eastern Cape: Suspect arrested for second time in huge dagga bust

ZWIDE – In the ongoing clampdown on drugs in Nelson Mandela Metro, police members of the Motherwell Operational Command Centre (OCC) this morning confiscated 21 bags of dagga which was transported in a white Toyota Quantum panel van.

This follows after the vehicle was pulled off during a crime prevention operation conducted by the OCC members in the Zwide area at 00:30. Members were however surprised to find the same suspect which was arrested earlier this month on 10 September in Govan Mbeki area close by. In that case he was arrested for possession of 26 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R1.2 Million

In this morning’s case, the members pulled him off driving a panel van loaded with 21 bags of dagga. Total weight was more than 600 kilograms and estimated street value of almost R1.5 Million. The Toyota panel van with estimated value of R400 000 was also confiscated.

The 46 year old suspect was released after his first arrest due to lack of evidence, but on this case of this morning he will have to face the charge of dealing in dagga at the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow 21 September 2017. #DrugsOffTheStreets
