Crane operator rescued in Cape Town CBD

On Wednesday afternoon 18 October 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports that a man at a construction site in the CBD had collapsed and required medical assistance.

Reports from the scene allege that radio communication with the man had been lost and it was feared that he was unconscious. Paramedics were informed that the man was a crane operator and that he was still up in the crane control box approximately fifty meters above them. Paramedics realised that more manpower and specialised equipment would be required and Metro Rescue was called and asked to assist.

Rescuers made their way up the crane tower and attended to the victim. The forty-two-year-old man was in a stable condition and was connected to a safety rope system. Once on the ground the patient was loaded into the ambulance and transported to the hospital for further assessment and care.
