Two people were injured this afternoon, the woman critically, following a vehicle rollover on the N1 highway near the Vanderbijlpark turnoff in Vanderbijlpark.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle lying on its roof some distance off into the veld. A man was found walking around on the scene while the body of a woman was found lying trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
Fire services had to use specialized rescue tools to free the woman from the vehicle. Once extricated, paramedics assessed both patients and found that the woman had sustained numerous injuries, leaving her in a critical condition, while the man had sustained moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the woman with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the woman was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to Lenmed Randfontein for urgent treatment. The man was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
