Theft suspect inflicted with mob justice outside a home on Heathrow Avenue in Parkgate

A suspect who attempted to steal plastic garden chairs from a home on Heathrow Avenue in Parkgate – Verulam was apprehended an assaulted by the community a short while ago (Monday).

Reaction Unit South Africa received multiple calls from residents in the area reporting the suspect running through their properties in an attempted to flee a mob that was chasing him. Reaction Officers proceeded to the location and found a mob consisting of approximately 20 people assaulting the man.

It was alleged that the suspect was being sought for several thefts that have occurred in the area in recent weeks. Yesterday he stole a hosepipe from a property on Heathrow Avenue. Residents attempted to apprehend him however he managed to evade arrest.

Today he returned and was in the process of stealing garden chairs from a residence when he was spotted. He fled from the property but was pursued by residents who managed to apprehend him. While being interviewed the suspect confirmed that he had stolen the hose pipe.

Reaction Officers placed the suspect under arrest and handed him over to Police.
