POLOKWANE – The Provincial Tracking Team of the South African Police Service and Detectives from Polokwane have on Tuesday, 3 April 2018 arrested the 42-year-old wife of a businessman who was killed in front of his son and a house helper. The incident took place in Flora Park, a suburb east of Polokwane on Tuesday, 20 February 2018 at about 07:10. The deceased was at the time identified as Mr Ngwako Willium Mathebula, the owner of Thaba Security Company. He was 46 years old at time of his killing.
It was reported at the time that the deceased’s 11-year-old son was confronted by three unknown suspects at his home’s gate as he was about to go to school. The assailants then pushed the child back into the house together with their house helper and subsequently shot dead the businessman who was in one of the rooms.
A team of Polokwane Detectives, assisted by the Provincial Tracking Team followed up information and conducted a sting operation in Lephalale during the night of 27 March 2018 and arrested a highly wanted suspect who is also a businessman aged around 40 who was allegedly involved in the killing of the deceased.
Information on his arrest was embargoed until Tuesday, 3 April 2018 to enable the operatives to make a follow-up on crucial information that led to the apprehension of the alleged girlfriend of one of the conspirators, who is the wife of the deceased. She was nabbed following intensive police investigations. The accused, Simon Ramela had already appeared in Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on 29 March 2018 on a charge of murder and will again appear in the same court on Wednesday, 4 April 2018.
The following were recovered during this operation:
• one firearm (a pistol)
• ten live rounds of ammunition and
• two motor vehicles
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended members involved in this breakthrough and urged members of the community to continue providing valuable information to assist the police in this and other cases.
The police are calling on Victor Mashakeng to avail himself at any police station as it is believed he will be able to assist in the investigation of this case.
