“Operation Fiela Reclaim” yields successes in Eastern Cape

Aliwal North on 20 April 2018 “Operation Fiela Reclaim” together with an Inter-Provincial Roadblock was held. The focus of this operation is to maintain law, order, peace and security as well as to reclaim the space occupied by criminals.

The Operation was conducted in two phases. The first phase focused at Aliwal North from 15:30 up until 18:00 after which members joined the Inter-Provincial roadblock until 21:00. The role players that participated included the following SAPS Aliwal -North and Maletswai , VIS , OCC, K9 Unit, immigration, social development, environmental affairs, EC liquor board and Provincial traffic and health department from the Freestate side stations from the SAPS included Rouxville, Goedemoed, Smithfield Zastron and Van Stadens and their Provincial Traffic department.

The first phase focused on compliance inspections at licensed liquor outlets, second-hand goods compliance, businesses were visited and street children interviewed. High visibility patrols and stop and search operations were conducted in town.

The second phase included activities at the roadblock and crime prevention that continued at Aliwal North. Later in the evening, the focus was on road safety, inspection of vehicle for roadworthiness, stolen goods and drugs. The successes achieved were as follows: 42 different offences were identified and acted on by the different departments. Selling liquor without a license; Traffic fines, immigration documents checked, notices to appear in court, second-hand goods dealers visited, taverns visited and shebeens closed down. At suspected stolen vehicle from Honeydew Gauteng was recovered. A total of 19 Traffic fines were issued for high speed and 48 readings for alcohol test and one vehicle suspended.

The Cluster Commander Brigadier Xakavu commended Colonel Wright the Operational Commander and his team together with all the other departments for the good work. Together we will reach our joint objective to create a safer environment for the respective communities we serve.
