One person was killed and eleven others were injured after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the R614 in Esnembe – KZN today.
At approximately 14:52 members of Reaction Unit South Africa who were on patrol in the area were alerted to the accident. Upon arrival an Isuzu bakkie was found lying on its roof. Several of the occupants who were seated at the back of the bakkie were ejected from the vehicle.
Paramedics from several ambulance services responded to the call. One woman was fatally injured and declared deceased at the scene. Eleven people were treated for moderate to serious injuries before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.
It is alleged that the occupants of the bakkie which consisted of eight women and four men had attended a funeral in Stanger. The driver was in the process of dropping them off when he lost control of the bakkie which struck a metal barrier and overturned.
Police are investigating further.
