SAPS participates in Walk the Talk with 702 and MTN

On a journey to a safer South Africa – walking closer to communities – Walk the Talk with MTN and Radio 702

Johannesburg: The “Walk the Talk with 702 and MTN” is taking place today, at Marks Park, Emmarentia Dam under the theme “Walking for South Africa”.

The Walk the Talk provides an opportunity for people from all walks of life and walkers of all fitness levels to come together peacefully, united in their diversity, for a fun family day out. Even babies in prams and pet dogs are welcome.

This year marks the 17th edition of the walk which will see over 50 000 people walking through closed roads in Johannesburg.
There is a 15 km walk, 8 km walk and 5 km walk. The SAPS is participating in the 8 km walk which starts at 09:00.

his is the fourth consecutive year that the South African Police Service is participating and it has now become customary for the 8 km walk to be started by a much-anticipated fly-past by three aircraft of the SAPS.

The SAPS this year will again have the prime spot along the route, the first power zone at the 1 km mark. This means that all 50 000 entrants walk past the SAPS power zone. At the power zone we will have:
A group of five from the SAPS band, singing and playing – this always attracts the walkers and sets the tone for the rest of their walk;
Corporate branding;
A static display of different operational vehicles;
Handing out of promotional items.

The National Commissioner, General Sitole, will take part with a team from the executive management made up of four Deputy National Commissioners, seven Divisional Commissioners, a representative of the Provincial Commissioner, a representative from the Regional Commissioner, EHW representatives, a team of five from the National Commissioner’s office, a team of five from the Ministry lead by the Chief of Staff, and representatives from the Youth, the CPF and spiritual services have been invited.

The theme of the SAPS will be “On a journey to a safer South Africa – walking closer to communities”.

As per the objective of the race itself, the SAPS sees this as an opportunity to:
o Strengthen community policing by interacting with the people of Johannesburg;
o Advance the Youth Crime Prevention Strategy;
o Lead into normalisation phase;
o Strengthen our fight against crimes against women and children. #MTN702Walk #CommunityPolicing
