Warrant Officer apprehended for smuggling dagga into correctional facility

A Warrant Officer aged 47 was this morning arrested for attempting to smuggle dagga into Polokwane Correctional Centre.

According to officials at the correctional facility, the police member came to fetch inmates who were due to appear in court, when a correctional official on duty caught him attempting to smuggle dagga for an inmate in the centre. The police were informed and the suspect was then arrested. Two packages of dagga weighing 143.99g were confiscated from the member.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the conduct of the member in the strongest possible terms. “Police members are always expected to remain true to their conscience and mandate, and refrain from engaging in criminal activities as the citizenry at large is looking up to them to be in the forefront in crime fighting, said General Ledwaba.

The suspect, who is attached to Mankweng police station as a Court Orderly, will appear in Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 8 August 2018.
