Four year old burn victim identified

Pictured is four year old Melokhule Mkhize who burnt to death after her home was set alight by her grandmothers boyfriend during an argument.

Reaction Unit South Africa responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting the entrapment of three children.

Reaction Officers located the body of Melokhuke lying face down & burnt beyond recognition. Two other children ages seven and eleven were located outside the residence. Paramedics treated them for burns to the body and face. They were transported to hospital.

The grandmothers explanation has not been verified. Reaction Officers found that she was heavily intoxicated & blamed her boyfriend for the death of the child. He fled the scene & could not be immediately located.

The four year old child lived with her grandmother while her 17 year old mother, a grade 11 pupil is currently attending school In Amazamtoti- KZN.
