Injured teenager reportedly taken on Joyride in Verulam

A 19 year old girl was taken on a joyride instead of a medical facility after a taxi ran over her foot on Inanda Road in Verulam a short while ago (Monday).

At approximately 17:14 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to Todd Street in the Verulam CBD after receiving a call from a member of public requesting assistance for the female.

Upon arrival it was established that the girl and her boyfriend were stationary on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on Inanda Road when the Toyota Hiace taxi began reversing on the emergency lane. Her boyfriend attempted to move out of the way however the taxi drove over his girlfriend’s foot and knocked into the side of his bike.

The driver of the taxi offered to transport the teenager to hospital and loaded her in his vehicle while being followed by her boyfriend on his motorcycle. He then drove around Verulam dropping off other passengers when her boyfriend managed to stop the vehicle on Todd Street. The girls boyfriend who is also a Doctor based in Eshowe – north of Durban was upset that the driver of the taxi continued on his route instead of proceeding straight to hospital.

Medics treated the teenager for her injury before transporting her to hospital.
