12 Injured in structural collapse in Pinetown

Twelve people have been left injured following a structural collapse in a shop on Old Main Road in Pinetown this afternoon.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 15H00, they were led to the back of the shop. Here they found three females who were trapped under some of the stock that was stored on top of a storage deck. ER24, the SAPS Search and Rescue team, as well as the eThekwini fire department, helped to get the injured patients out from underneath the rubble and stock. The workers from the shop also helped to free their colleagues. The three who were trapped were found to have sustained moderate injuries.

Another nine patients were found to have sustained minor injuries.

ER24, as well as various other medical services on the scene, transported the injured to hospital for further medical care.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to our paramedics.
