KZN Transport officials attend funeral of 6 victims of road crash on the N2 near Empangeni

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda, attended the funeral of six people who died in a head-on collision involving a minibus and a light motor vehicle on the N2 near Empangeni two weeks ago.

The crash claimed the lives of 15 people. MEC Kaunda told mourners that the department was not going to be deterred in intensifying the integrated festive season safety plan by the recent fatal crashes.

“We want to call upon road users to abide by the rules of the road so that we can save lives,” said MEC Kaunda, whilst reiterating government’s commitment to reduce road carnage.

After the funeral, Kaunda conducted a crime and road safety blitz at Hluhluwe and Mtubatuba taxi ranks, shopping centres and taverns to assure commuters and shoppers that government will strain every nerve to ensure that they have a safe and peaceful festive season.
