Gauteng: Police arrest three suspects for possession of stolen school smart boards

Police in Gauteng made a breakthrough in arresting three suspects involved in business robberies committed at Lenasia, Alexandra and Diepkloof Schools. Four smart boards believed to have been stolen at Alexandra and Diepkloof schools during business robberies were recovered in a second hand goods shop at Johannesburg CBD. The suspects will appear in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and business robbery.

It is alleged that a group of men tied up guards in the evening of 08 October 2018 at Lenasia and stole school equipment. On January 2018 also a two schools at Alexandra and Diepkloof were robbed. While police were following up information on the robbery Menzi Primary School, the suspects were arrested.

Since the business at Menzi Primary School in Tsakane, a team of detectives from Ekurhuleni East Cluster and Trio Task Team have been working tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and goods recovered. Intelligence driven information led the teams to Johannesburg CBD again where three suspects aged 34 and 47 were arrested. The total number of suspects arrested so far for school robberies is seven (7). The suspects arrested recently will join the other four suspects that have already appeared in court.

Investigation and search for the remaining stolen goods is continuing and police are still appealing to members of the community who can help in the investigation and the recovery of the outstanding tablets to please contact the nearest police station or contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
