Suspects arrested by Tshwane Metro Police for cable theft

Tshwane Metro Police officers were tipped off on Wednesday afternoon about suspects in a grey Mercedes Benz who were vandalizing electricity substations.

The officers located the vehicle at a parking area of a substation in Scheiding Street in the CBD.

While in the parking area they heard people working inside the substation. They went in and found two men ripping off cables.

Upon further questioning, the two men alleged that they were employed by the City of Tshwane and were there on official duty.

The officers investigated the matter, and found that one of the men was indeed a City of Tshwane employee but was not authorised to perform such duties. The other was a well-known local DJ.

The two men were then placed under arrest for cable theft and will appear in court soon.

Well done to the TMPD officers for their swift response and for the tip-off from a concerned citizen! Together we will continue to fight cable theft in Tshwane.
