Seven Injured in suspected drunk driving collision on Sunday in Verulam, KwaZulu Natal

Seven people including a three (3) year old child were injured following a collision on Umdloti Beach Road in the vicinity of Waterloo in Verulam a short while ago (Sunday).

At approximately 15:18 the Reaction Unit South Africa Verulam Operations Centre received multiple calls from passing motorists reporting the collision. Upon standing down it was established that a Cherry QQ and a Toyota RunX were involved in the collision. The Toyota RunX was lying on its side.

Paramedics from various ambulance services extricated some of the injured who were trapped in the extensively damaged vehicles. At least four people including a three (3) year old boy were seriously injured. They were among seven people transported to hospital for injuries sustained in the collision.

It is alleged that the Toyota RunX was travelling towards Waterloo when the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the path of the Cherry QQ which was traveling in the opposite direction. Both vehicles collided which caused the Toyota RunX to overturn.

The driver of the Toyota RunX who is a Zimbabwean national is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.
