Attempted Murder & Robbery Suspects Arrested in Verulam, KZN

Four suspects aged between 17 & 28 were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after they robbed and stabbed a volunteer from the Verulam Crime Watch Sector 1 Community Patrol Group outside a service station on Todd Street in Verulam on Saturday morning.

Yesterday (Saturday) RUSA obtained video footage of the robbery. The footage showed four occupants of a dark blue Toyota Conquest approach the off duty community volunteer who was waiting for a lift along Todd Street. Without warning the suspects began assaulting the victim. During the assault one of the suspect’s stabbed the victim and robbed him off his Samsung cellphone, R250 in cash, a gold ring and his backpack containing six electronic scanning devices which belonged to his employer.

Reaction Officers began tracking the suspects vehicle and established that all four suspects resided in the Redcliffe area. This morning the vehicle was spotted on Buffelsdraai Road. Reaction Officers approached and arrested the driver and passenger who were confirmed to be involved in the robbery.

The suspects led Reaction Officers and members of the Verulam Crime Watch Sector 1 patrol unit to Redcliffe Drive where the 17-year-old suspect was arrested. The gold ring belonging to the victim was recovered in his possession (picture 15). A cellphone was also recovered in his home (picture 5). The teenager confirmed while being interviewed that following the incident on Todd Street he and his friends stabbed a prostitute and robbed her off her cellphone. The fourth suspect was arrested at his home in Redcliffe.

All four suspects are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS. The victim positively identified the four as the people that attacked and robbed him.
