Seven suspects arrested for stock theft

In a concerted effort to fight the scourge of Stock Theft in the Province, the police in Mahwelereng outside Mokopane have on Thursday, 25 April 2019, arrested seven (7) suspects aged between18 and 47. The suspects were nabbed at about 10h30 after they were found in possession of suspected stolen live stock (cattle).

The positive reaction by members of crime prevention after receiving a tip-off from the farming community about unknown men herding cattle in the bushes, resulted into their arrest.

Three of the suspects were cornered along the gravel road from Ga-Mashashane leading to the N11 between Ga-Molekane and Ga-Magongwa village outside Mahwelereng while herding twelve (12) cattle on foot. Their accomplices were driving in a VW Golf GTI vehicle without registration numbers.

The origin of the stolen cattle will be determined by the ongoing police investigations. The suspects may be linked to other stock theft cases within the province.

All seven suspects will appear before Mokerong Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are still continuing.
