Hydroponic dagga lab cultivator accused denied bail

A 47-year-old accused, Anthony Rhodes Trittis was denied bail by the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday for operating a hydroponic dagga lab from his home in Randburg north of Johannesburg.

Trittis and his four co-accused, Louis Eugene Hulme (22), Jamie Zeedeberg (19), Keagan Christopher Blignaat (18), and Katelyn Trittis (18) who were granted bail of R5000 and R2000 respectively, appeared before the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday following their arrest in Olivedale on Friday.

A multidisciplinary team comprising of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), Crime Intelligence, and local police pounced on the accused’s residence in the upmarket suburb of Olivedale on Friday morning following a tipoff.

A fully functional hydroponic lab was discovered in a yard filled with dagga plantation as well as oil and complete dagga products.

The case is postponed to Thursday, 23 May 2019 for Trittis’s formal bail application and further investigation. The accused are facing charges of dealing and cultivation of dagga.
