Man hospitalised following fire in a shack in Pietermaritzburg

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was left seriously injured this morning following a fire in a shack in an informal settlement near Umlaas Road outside of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 personnel arrived on the scene at 08h52 to find a man seated a vehicle parked outside a shack.
Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained burn wounds on his legs and arms, leaving him in a serious condition.
The man was treated for his injuries and was provided with pain-relief medication before he was transported to Edendale Provincial Hospital for further care.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
