Fire engulfs Durban home, destroys three cars

Durban – A fire that swept through a property in Newlands West destroyed three cars and a home on Tuesday night.

North Durban Fire and Emergency Services Divisional Commander Bruce de Gier said they received a call that a truck was well alight on a property in Newlands West Drive.

“When we arrived the fired had spread to three mini bus taxis. The fire also spread onto the home. We cut off the fire and saved the house from any further damage. We then extinguished the vehicles that were on fire. There were no injuries to anyone,”he said

The cause of the fire was unknown. Kyle Van Reenen, spokesperson for Crises Medical paramedics said there were no injuries reported.

Last week the Department of Environmental Affairs’ Expanded Public Works Programme Working on Fire in KwaZulu-Natal put out 28 fires in KwaZulu-Natal.
There were 187 firefighters that were deployed to put out the fires.

Working on Fire KZN spokesperson, Nompilo Zondi said KZN was affected by the High Danger Index, resulting in 28 fires across the province.
