Female theft suspect makes second floor escape jump – nabbed by community in Lotus Park

A Lotus Park resident had just completed a prayer when she was approached by a young female who requested food and then turned around grabbed the woman’s cash from the table and fled this afternoon. Alpha Alarms Response units were dispatched to the scene after a robbery and community arrest was reported.

Upon arrival Alpha Alarms members discovered that the quick acting community had pursued and apprehended the thief. The Mimosa Road complainant said she had completed her prayer when the woman approached her and requested some food. The resident was in the process of providing the woman with a meal when she received a phone call. The resident turned away and answered the call at which point the woman grabbed R500 in cash which was left out in view. The female suspect jumped from the second floor of the flat and fled. The resident realised the theft and called out to neighbours for help.

The community rallied together and pursued the suspect who was quickly apprehended. The suspect was adamant that she did not have the money. Intense questioning led her to retrieve the cash from inside her pants. Isipingo SAPS responded to the scene and a case was opened.

The suspect was handed over to police.Well done to the community for acting swiftly and apprehending the suspect.
