POLOKWANE – Two armed suspects were arrested and their two accomplices fatally wounded during a shootout with the Police at Magatle precinct in Lebowakgomo cluster.
It is alleged that the on 02 October 2019 between 06:00 and 07:00, Police were performing their daily patrol duties when they received a tip-off about a black Mercedes-Benz with four occupants that have committed robbery in the area.
The Police followed the information and spotted the vehicle with the same description at Moletlane village. They tried to stop the vehicle but it sped off. The vehicle chase ensued, until at Ntamatise village where the suspects stopped and allegedly started to shoot the Police, who retaliated, resulting in two of the four suspects being fatally wounded and the other two arrested.
The Police recovered unlicensed firearms with live ammunition.
The identity of the two deceased is not yet known.
The two arrested suspects will soon appear before the Thabamoopo magistrate’s court on charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The Police investigations are still underway.
