At least five (5) informal homes were destroyed in a fire on New Glasgow Road in Canelands – Verulam today (Sunday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene at approximately 15:11 by residents reporting the blaze. Upon arrival the wood and iron homes were engulfed in flames. Residents managed to remove furniture and other valuable items from most of the homes. The fire was extinguished upon arrival of the Ethekwini Fire Department.
The cause of the fire has not been established at this stage.
