Swift response led to the arrest of hijackers

EASTERN CAPE – Two men with aged 28 and 31 respectively were arrested by Mqanduli and Provincial Traffic Police shortly after they allegedly hijacked a Toyota bakkie at Mancam locality Mqanduli on Monday, 14 October 2019 at about 14h00. It is alleged that the owner of the bakkie was approached by the pair that demanded his car keys at gunpoint and fled with it. The officers made chase and the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but were chased and arrested at Gogozayo locality at about 15h00.

Two 9mm pistols were seized from them, one pistol with two rounds and another one with one round. They will be profiled in order to establish if they can be linked to other crimes and will appear before Mqanduli Magistrate’s Court on 15 October 2019 facing charges of hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“I commend the police members for their swift action which resulted in the speedy arrest of the hijackers shortly after committing the crime.” Said the District Commissioner Major General Mhlangenqaba Kanuka.
