Wanted murder suspect arrested and firearm recovered in Canelands, KZN

Acting on information Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrested a wanted murder suspect in Canelands – KZN on Tuesday morning.

The suspect (in white t-shirt) was arrested after the RUSA/SAPS Rapid Response Team received information regarding a gang of four (4) men who murdered five (5) people in the Canelands area in the past few weeks. The victims included two brothers who were shot dead outside a shebeen, a member of the community in Canelands who was hacked to death and his penis cut off, a male who was shot dead in an informal settlement, a man who was shot multiple times while walking near a railway line and a 23 year old male who was shot dead on Saturday 16/11/2019 when his vehicle broke down in Missionlands. His pregnant girlfriend was also attacked. The suspects were also sought for kidnapping, armed robbery, intimidation and several other criminal cases.

Reaction Officers planned an Operation last night and kept observation over the workplace of the suspect. He failed to return to work for several days and finally pitched up to work this morning. Officers apprehended him without incident at 08:30.

A second Operation was planned at approx 10:30 this morning which included the Detectives from Verulam SAPS. The suspects home, which is in an informal settlement was searched and an unlicensed 9mm Browning pistol and live ammunition were recovered.

The suspect is currently in detention.
