Should you polish and wax your car?

Do you like to keep your car looking its best? Looking after your car’s appearance and maintaining its roadworthiness are essential when owning a vehicle. Caring for your car’s visual presence could be especially crucial if you are still paying it off or if you plan on selling your vehicle in the future.

Motorists should try to keep their cars’ interiors and exteriors as clean as possible. If you don’t, before you know it, you may have to deal with expensive aesthetic-related repairs in the long-term. It is best to take care of your car on a regular basis.

Whether you wash your car yourself or take it to a car wash, polish and wax could be beneficial after your car has been cleaned. Nevertheless, you should first speak to your car manufacturer and ask for advice before you apply anything to your car’s paintwork. The last thing you would want to do is damage your car’s paintwork because you used the wrong car care products.

Do your research

It would be best if you take special care to follow the polish and wax manufacturers’ guidelines for their products’ proper usage. For example, you could damage your car’s paint by applying wax or polish to a dirty car. There is also a correct way of rubbing the car care product onto the paintwork of your car that you would need to be aware of before you use such a product.

You may have heard of car polish and car wax, but what exactly are they? What do they do?  Car polish removes scratches while car wax smooths out the paintwork by adding a protective layer.

Car polish1

Car polish might be an excellent choice if your car’s paintwork and shine has started to fade. The polish will remove a fine layer of the paint that has lost its colour and shine. It will then expose the original colour of the paint. In the process, it should also remove some fine scratches and other blemishes.

Car polish could be a bad idea when used on new cars if it is too abrasive. You don’t want to remove your original car’s protective clear coat of paint with polish, as it could be counter-productive and damage the paintwork.

The effect of car polish will usually last longer on your car’s paintwork than the use of wax. A well-polished car can keep its new shine for roughly a year, while the protective layer provided by waxing does not last as long.

Car wax1

It is generally recommended to apply wax to your car after you have polished it. High-quality car wax will provide your vehicle’s paintwork with a protective layer while adding some extra shine. Waxing your car compliments what the polishing did by filling any remaining scratches and providing an overall smoothing effect to the paintwork. Car waxes are designed to keep their shine regardless of whether the vehicle is hot or cold, wet or dry.

Whether you decide to polish and wax your car or not, always take good care of your vehicle.

Another possible way to protect your car is through car insurance. Do you have affordable car insurance?
