Aliwal North Station: The safety of our community is guaranteed during the safer festive season.

The partnership between the South African Police Service (SAPS), CPF and other external stakeholders including the Aliwal North Business Association and Ratepayers Association initiated a pilot project for Car Guard in town.

Their main objective is to support the car guards and motivate them to be more professional when doing their work and to safe guard the people in towns properly and to report any crime committed to the Police.

The Aliwal North Station Commander, Col Chris Wright said he was very delighted about the group of car guards identified that are going to assist the Police in their endeavours to fight crime in town.

Currently theft out of Motor vehicle is a challenge as criminals are using devices and equipment to open the vehicles from a distance.

We believe there will be a positive impact on crime as we take hands with our business sector, said Col Wright.

Aliwal North Community Policing Forum Chairperson Mr Ntshobodi said they have started long a go to recruit the car guards to assist the police in fighting crime.

Before they started with their duties, roles and responsibilities were explained to them and they also signed a code of conduct prepared for them.

The representative from the Business Association said as the Business sector and Ratepayers Associations they will support these young people, and believe if we work together we can defeat crime.

The guards don’t get a stipend but Aliwal North Business Association provided them with a set of new uniform so that the community can identify them easy. FIGHTING CRIME IS EVERY ONE’S RESPONSIBILITY.
