Gauteng police double the efforts to recover illegal firearms in the province

The recovery of two more unlicensed firearms by the police in Gauteng yesterday is a clear indication that the intensified police visibility is effective and bears positive results in the province.

Police were conducting stop and search in Alexandra Township as part of Safer Festive Season Operations on Thursday 12 December 2019, when they intercepted a Mercedes Benz with two occupants.

The suspects attempted to speed-off but were blocked and the police quickly jumped out and contained the vehicle and suspects.

When examining the vehicle, police noticed that it was flitted with false number plates on top of the original ones.

The police proceeded to search and both suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms.

The firearms will be taken for a ballistic test to determine if they were not used in the commission of other crimes while car was impounded pending the investigation.
