The body of a woman and two of her infant children were found hanging in a bedroom at their home in Verulam

The body of a woman and two of her infant children were found hanging in a bedroom at their home in Area 2 Mslasini – Verulam.

A resident from the area arrived at the Reaction Unit South Africa Headquarters by taxi requesting assistance after the deceased’s two older daughters made the discovery. Reaction Officers and Medics proceeded to the residence and on arrival found the mother lying on the floor. Two boys aged 2 & 3 years were on the bed. The bedsheet used the hang them was tied around their necks. The television in the living room was turned on.

According to the woman’s 10 and 12-year-old daughters, their mother had forcefully fed them all approx five tablets resembling Rattex. She then sent the two older children to a local tuck shop to borrow money. When they returned they found their mother and two brothers hanging from the rafter from bedsheets. Upon hearing the two girls screaming residents ran to the home and cut down the three bodies. Medics are currently assessing the medical condition the two emotional children who are also being counselled by a female. The daughters could not explain as to why they had been asked to stay away from school today.

Residents in the area who met the woman this morning stated that she was her usual self and did not display any signs of depression.

The surviving children are currently in the care of RUSA Officers and are been monitored until relatives of the deceased can be located.
