Uitenhage K9 arrest hijacking suspects in Port Elizabeth

PORT ELIZABETH – Uitenhage K9 members arrested three suspects at about 09:24 on 12 February 2020 in Marine Drive, Schoenmakerskop.

The members received information regarding a Toyota Corolla that was suspected to be hijacked. It is alleged that on Wednesday 12 February 2020 at approximately 07:45 the complainant was operating as a taxi driver in Old Uitenhage Road when he picked up three males aged between 18 and 23 years. As he was driving, one suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm while another suspect was armed with an iron bar. They threatened the complainant and as they approached Rensburg Street, he was instructed to stop the vehicle. He was assaulted and forced out of the car. The suspects drove off with the vehicle.

The complainant reported the hijacking at Bethelsdorp police station and the vehicle information was circulated. Uitenhage K9 unit received information regarding the vehicle and immediately followed up. The vehicle was spotted in Marine Drive, Schoenmakerskop and three suspects were arrested.

The quick response to information and the immediate following up resulted in the speedy recovery and arrests.

The suspects will be detained on charges of vehicle hijacking and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court soon.
