Prieska drug dealer sentenced to five years imprisonment

NORTHERN CAPE – The Prieska Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced Godfrey September (28) to an effective five (5) years direct imprisonment yesterday, 04 March 2020 for dealing in drugs.

September was arrested together with eight others in March 2019 by Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigating unit during a project-driven investigation aimed at addressing drugs and drug trafficking in Prieska area. During his arrest, the team infiltrated the syndicate resulting in approximately twenty transactions being recorded.

An assortment of narcotics which included Mandrax, Tik, and Cat valued at over R 600 000-00 was purchased from the syndicate. September was among those arrested after seven (7) houses were searched and a series of paraphernalia consistent with the distribution and use of narcotics were found.

September was found guilty and sentenced on two counts for dealing in drugs. He was sentenced to two (2) years imprisonment and three (3) years imprisonment respectively. He will serve an effective five (5) years direct imprisonment. He was further sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment for attempted murder which is not related to the project. The sentences will run concurrently.
