Suspect apprehended by the public after stabbing the employee of a bottle store in Redcliffe, Verulam

A man was apprehended by the public after he stabbed a bottle store employee in Redcliffe – Verulam.

At approximately 11:05 the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Center received a call from the owner of the business requesting assistance to apprehend the men that were responsible for the attack on the victim. The caller explained that the four suspects were being pursued by himself and his customers towards the sandpit in Redcliffe.

On arrival Reaction Officers found that one of the suspects had been apprehended on Camelia End by the group who pursued them on foot. His accomplices managed to evade arrest. The suspect was positively identified as the person who had stabbed the victim. The knife used in the attack was discarded by the suspect during the foot chase.

According to witnesses four men entered the bottle store and began taunting customers for no reason. When the bottle store employee intervened the men began assaulting him. One of them drew a knife and stabbed him in the back and abdomen before fleeing.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to Police. The victim was treated for his injuries on the scene before being transported to the hospital in a stable condition.
