Eastern Cape SAPS members participate in communicating level 4 lockdown regulations

Members from the Corporate Communication Component started today, 05 May 2020 with an awareness drive to assist Government in communicating the new regulations into workable solutions for the people that we serve.

Due to the influx of people in King William’s Town Central Business District as government social grant recipients were buying essential goods and services during this period, SAPS members used this opportunity to engage with the community to ensure compliance on the new regulations.
The public were also sensitized more especially on personal hygiene, wearing of masks while out in the public, when using public transport as well as the curfew times as stipulated in the government gazette.
Criminal charges and fines as per the Disaster Management Act for non-compliance were also communicated.

The awareness campaign continued to East London Cluster’s Taxi Rank, Oxford Main Street and several shopping centres where community members are in large numbers, Communication Personnel delivering the same message.

The drive is expected to reach to other areas of the province this week to ensure cooperation and commitment from everyone in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic in a crime free environment.
