KWAZULU-NATAL – Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, together with the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Safety, Mr. Bheki Ntuli, SAPS Divisional Commissioner for ORS, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, on Tuesday 12 May 2020, visited Tongaat SAPS to look into the handling by the police of the case relating to the disappearance of 16-year-old Andile Bobo Mchunu.

After engaging with the station management, the Minister and his entourage visited the tavern, believed to be the last place where Bobo was seen on 28 April 2020. The tavern has since been torched allegedly by angry residents from the area.

Minister Cele then visited the Mchunu family in Hambanathi to offer sympathy.

Police are yet to confirm the identity of the human remains recovered from a river in Tongaat on Friday, speculated to belong to the 16-year-old boy.
