Four firearms seized and suspects arrested in the Eastern Cape

EASTERN CAPE – Excellent collaboration between the various policing units in the Mount Road Cluster resulted in the arrest of 3 suspects and the seizure of four firearms during the early hours of this morning, 4 June 2020.

It is alleged that at about 04:15 this morning, PE K9, PE Flying Squad, and SAPS Algoa Park members acted on information received about firearms at a house in Arcadian Street in Missionvale. The information was immediately activated and the house was tactically penetrated. Three firearms were found in the house. Three suspects aged 14, 18, and 27 were arrested for illegal possession of firearms.

While still processing the scene at the house, the alert members heard the sound of a firearm been cocked from a house on the opposite side of the road. They instantly reacted and found 7 occupants in the house. A firearm was found on the roof of the house. An inquiry docket was opened for further investigation.

Two of the firearms were reported stolen – one in Mount Road in June 2012 and the other in Port Alfred in February 1996. The ownership of the other two is yet to be established. All the firearms will be sent to ballistics for testing.

The 18 and 27-year-old suspects were detained while the teenager was released in his guardian’s custody. They are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court soon.
