Security Officer Injured In Accidental Shooting in Canelands, KZN

A Security Officer was seriously injured after he was accidentally shot by his colleague in Canelands, Verulam during the early parts of this morning (Saturday).
At approximately 03:18 the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a member of public reporting a shot being fired in the area. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the location provided. While on route Officers were flagged down by the occupants of a bakkie who had loaded the injured Security Officer in the vehicle and were in the process of transporting him to hospital.
Paramedics were called to the scene and on arrival stabilized the man who was bleeding excessively from his injury. The bullet had entered his back in a downward motion and exited his right thigh. He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
It was alleged that both men were horseplaying when one of the Security Officers firearms fell from his holster and discharged. This version of events could not be confirmed.
SAPS were on scene and are investigating further.
