Police hunt murder, attempted murder and robbery suspect: Port Elizabeth

Algoa Park detectives are appealing to the community to assist them in tracing a suspect involved in two serious incidents whereby a female was fatally wounded and another male robbed on Saturday morning, 20 June 2020.

It is alleged that at about 04:45, the complainant was woken up by the sound of gunshots and looked through the window. She noticed her cousin, Chantelle Oliphant (32) lying next to the window. An unknown male wearing dark shoes with white Puma stripes, dark pants and a dark jacket was searching the victim. He took her bottle of liquor and ran towards Arkanza Street, Missionvale. Oliphant sustained a gunshot wound to body and died on the scene. The incident took place in Okavango Street. Police are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery.

About 5 minutes later, it is alleged that another victim (age unknown) was approached by the same suspect in Arkanza Street and the suspect tried to rob him with a firearm. A struggle ensued and the complainant managed to overpower and disarm the suspect.

During the scuffle, a shot went off and the suspect ran off. A case of attempted murder and attempted armed robbery was opened. Police seized a dark blue Puma takkie (one shoe) with white stripes, a 9mm pistol (serial no filed off), 3 cellphones and 2 bottles of liquor.
