Police investigate culpable homicide after fatal head-on collision claims two lives

POLOKWANE: The police in Namakgale outside Phalaborwa have opened a case of culpable homicide for investigation after two people died during a head-on collision involving two motor vehicles that occurred along the R71 road over the past weekend.

It is alleged that the police received a report about an accident and immediately proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a VW Golf TSI with no occupants inside and a white Renault Sandero with the female driver and a male passenger inside. Both were certified dead by the medical emergency personnel on the scene.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the two vehicles collided head-on. The male driver of the other vehicle aged 35, apparently went to report the matter at the police station after the accident occurred. He escaped with minor injuries.

The deceased were identified as Kgaugelo Motshabi aged 27 from Namakgale and Joseph Makhoba aged 52 from Phalaborwa.

The circumstances leading to the accident are unknown at this stage but police investigations are still continuing.
