A suspect threatened to slit a four-year-old girl’s throat during a robbery on Deepdale Place in the Chubbies Garage area in Verulam.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Verulam Operations Center received a call from a passerby requesting assistance for the mother and child. On arrival, it was established that the suspect approached the duo who were walking on the pavement. He placed a knife on the girl’s throat and asked her mother to hand over her valuables. He repeatedly informed the woman that he would kill the child if she resisted.
The suspect grabbed a Vodafone tablet from the female as she was removing it from her handbag and pushed her to the ground. He then fled the scene on foot. Residents in the area confirmed that the suspect is a drug user and is known to them. The suspect could not be immediately located.
Both mother and child were not injured.
