Four suspects to appear in court for murder in George

CAPE TOWN – Intensive investigation by detectives in the Eden Cluster led to the arrest of four suspects in connection with two unrelated murders in George. They are due to appear in court soon.

Thembalethu Detectives arrested three suspects aged 22, 24, and 27 on Saturday, 29 August 2020 in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old man at Asazani Street, Zone 6 earlier. A preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was assaulted by a group of people. The body of the deceased was later found in the street with a stab wound to the head. He was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

The suspects are still in custody. They will appear in the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 31 August 2020 on a charge of murder.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested a 57-year-old suspect on a farm at Rondevlei Road, Wilderness this morning, 30 August 2020 at about 07:00 after he was connected to the death of a 50-year-old man at the farm on Sunday, 30 August 2020. The body of the victim was found by family friends in the bedroom of his residence with multiple wounds. Initial investigation at the scene indicates that the victim was assaulted with a spade. He sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The suspect was later arrested at the scene on a charge of murder. He remains in custody and will appear in Court on Tuesday, 01 September 2020.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted this week.
