Four firearms seized in Dalton, three men due in court

DURBAN – Police officers attached to the Port Shepstone Public Order Police Unit embarked on an intelligence-driven operation in Dalton. The operation that started yesterday from 22:00 until 04:00 this morning, reaped good results when four unlicensed firearms were seized at different homesteads in Dalton.

The team went to four homesteads in various areas such as Njengabantu, Mount Ellias and Jikijiki where three suspects aged between 27 and 35 were placed under arrest after they were found in possession of three pistols. A total of 29 rounds of ammunition were also recovered by the police.

The team proceeded to a fourth homestead in the same area where the suspect ran away upon seeing the police officers. At the suspect’s premises, the police found a pistol with19 rounds of ammunition. The arrested suspects will appear before the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

“The use of illegal firearms contributes to crimes being committed and innocent lives being lost. These operations will continue to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
