Man arrested for theft of copper and signalling cable in Pretoria

A joint cover operation that forms part of an integrated operation plan to address theft and damages of critical infrastructure in the rail environment has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man in Pretoria.

The man was arrested during a multi-disciplinary operation by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), PRASA, TELKOM and City of Tshwane on Friday, 11 September 2020, for tampering with essential infrastructure and theft of copper and signaling cable worth R60 000-00.

The suspect was allegedly caught in possession of stolen signal and copper cables belonging to the three entities as mentioned in the Hercules policing precinct.

The signal and copper cable and other equipment used have been seized for further investigation.

The suspect is detained and will make his first appearance before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
