Two men who are believed to be linked to a string of robberies were arrested following a lengthy foot chase involving members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), Metro Police and the Verulam SAPS a short while ago (Friday).
A Reaction Officer was on patrol in the vicinity of the R102 when he noticed a Metro Policeman scuffling with a suspect on the roadside. The RUSA Member called for backup and proceeded to assist the Officer in distress.
The suspect managed to break free and fled into a bush separating the R102 and the Verulam CBD. It was established at this stage that the Metro
Policeman was on patrol when he witnessed two men robbing a female. He pursued the robbers on foot and during the chase one of the men attempted to overpower him.
The Verulam SAPS Crime Prevention Unit also witnessed the scuffle and pursued the suspects into a bush separating the R102 and the Verulam CBD.
Both suspects were arrested following a lengthy search of bush.
The robbers are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
